In regards ...I know I'm late to the party, but:
In regards to Option 3 (sort of), if you want to come over here to the West Side of the Cascades, you can do parts of the Oregon Coast. Yeah, it'll be rainy, but many of the parks have yurts for around $30 a night with heat, light, beds (byo bedding). You'd still want to reserve them, though.

And instead of flying to Seattle, you can take Amtrak there (as well as Portland.) It's a $5 fee for bringing your bike (plus $15 if you get their box.)adventure!https://www.blogger.com/profile/11840448827760637569noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4501437224497800843.post-43950548437062799512011-01-19T17:25:12.541-08:002011-01-19T17:25:12.541-08:00Good stuff here.

I'd want a mountain bike for that right? is there tooling around/touring potential there?

Alex: I don't know why flying to Seattle didn't occur to me. Maybe I can have my cake and eat it too... a little surf and turf action: some time on the islands and some time up north.

Rory: funny you should mention Waterville. I've always wanted to do that climb up from Columbia on hiway 2. And the climb up the Vantage Hiway to Ellensburg. New camera rules btw - - thanks for the recommendation.John Spearehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07187638368645707099noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4501437224497800843.post-59001234953996760572011-01-19T13:41:34.580-08:002011-01-19T13:41:34.580-08:00I like option 2, but i'll add something else.
...I like option 2, but i'll add something else.

My first tour was from cle elum to waterville, then to vantage, then back to cle elum, which we did in mid april sometime. the area between waterville and vantage looks like it would be good to explore in the month of april, if you're into desert riding.rorynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4501437224497800843.post-57774455763681613932011-01-18T14:46:34.056-08:002011-01-18T14:46:34.056-08:00Arizona or southern Utah.Arizona or southern Utah.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07147222674320376972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4501437224497800843.post-16194581765543350142011-01-18T09:37:07.959-08:002011-01-18T09:37:07.959-08:00Moab in April is perfect. You don't even have to bring a bike, I can loan you one. I might be able to join up for a few days. The San Juans are nice at that time of year, but might not offer the quantity of dirt that you'd like. However snow won't be an issue.Alex Wetmorehttp://alexwetmore.orgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4501437224497800843.post-4404593362133966332011-01-18T04:05:34.647-08:002011-01-18T04:05:34.647-08:00hey john

Miles and miles of gravel.

You could also drive South and break it up with rides.Natehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12028469965529153936noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4501437224497800843.post-49068576779141230922011-01-17T18:07:16.766-08:002011-01-17T18:07:16.766-08:00I too vote for Option #2.
