Vintage Bike Ride

On the first Sunday of every month, a group of cyclists ride a variety of bicycles on a fun little ride from The Elk Public House to David's Pizza. About 90 cyclists showed up for today's ride.

While taking pictures of bikes and walking through the crowd I heard a couple people order pizzas ahead of time. Something to keep in mind for next time.

I'm not that familiar with many of the older bike manufacturers. Everybody knows Schwinn. But names like J.C. Higgins and Hawthorne barely register with me. And these bikes lined up alongside the fire truck at David's Pizza were too cool. More photos here.

  1. Phoning ahead for pizza makes a ton of sense as Davids seems incapable of getting ahold of the idea that they will have a crowd show up every first Sunday and putting some extra staff on for an hour or two.

One just to handle beverage orders would be a good (and profitable) start.

My last two times on this ride, I just gave up and went elsewhere to spend my money.

  2. How did 90 people find out about this and why didn't I know? Where is the info for this event?

  3. Curmudgeon,

Aside from getting the hint every first Sunday of the month, I wonder if Josh calls David's Pizza and gives them a head's up.

    FBC,

I know Josh posts a notice on Craiglist every month, e.g., http://spokane.craigslist.org/bik/1623490065.html.
I believe there's a notice in Out There Monthly and maybe in The Inlander.

  4. I spoke to the owner of David's Pizza today and he says that no one called to give them a "heads up" about the ride ahead of time so they could schedule for it. Sounds like it will get better coordinated going forward.

David's Pizza does a lot to support cycling and the cycling community, so it is great that this ride stops there to support their business.

  5. Looks like a fun ride. I have few bikes that could qualify for the festivities.

    It's a great idea.
