Free Parking On Bloomsday

No, this isn't an April Fool's joke. For some years now the Spokane Bicycle Club has set up and supervised a bike corral for Bloomsday runners. I first used it 10 years ago. Geoff, 15 at the time, and I rode our bikes to Riverfront Park and left them at the corral. When you have over 40,000 people converging on the downtown area this is a great way to save yourself the hassle of traffic and finding a place to park. Plus, the corral makes a perfect meeting point after you've finished the race. Geoff had to wait almost a half hour for me to show, but that was his fault for finishing in 47 minutes and change.

Here's a tip for those of you with kids who are finishing at a different time than you. Give them some money so they can buy some kettle corn and a drink to enjoy while they're waiting for you. Regardless, enjoy the ride as well as the run!

  2. Not true. Nor is it like the Kreme Kreme Challenge.

Once when Bloomsday fell on Cinco de Mayo someone at the apartments near Spokane Falls Community College had a table set up and was giving out free shots of tequila. I passed.
