Bike/Ped Public Workshop Next Week

Cancel your plans for next Wednesday night. You're coming with me. Spokane Regional Transportation Council is in the midst of a Transportation Vision Project and we're looking for input from people like yourself.

What the heck is a Transportation Vision Project? It's a major undertaking to start with, but to be more specific, its a process to develop a Unified Regional Transportation Vision for the long term. The goal is to come up with a plan that describes the desired attributes of a fully integrated, multimodal transportation system to be developed over the next 30-50 years. Whew- I'm tired just from typing that out.

The Vision Project is being led by consulting firm MIG, Inc. They're looking at all modes of transportation-transit, bicycling, walking, personal vehicles, freight, etc.- within Spokane County, as well as how they contribute and interact with each other and economic development.

So that's where you come in. Next Wednesday night, we're hosting a Roundtable meeting to discuss specifically bicycling and pedestrian issues in the area. We're looking for feedback from the people who use the transportation system every day on what problems they see, suggestions on how to fix them, and what they would like to see in the future.

Would you like more bike and walking trails? How about bicycle boulevards? More bike racks on buses? Tell us! We want to hear it. This is your chance to get your two cents in, so take advantage of it. It's not everyday we do something this big, so let's do it right.

The meeting is from 6-8 p.m. at CenterPlace in Spokane Valley. Here's a flyer for the meeting. We're asking for RSVPs so we can have the right amount of materials ready. If you can attend, email me here. Hope to see you there. If not, you can still submit comments on our new Transportation Vision Project website. Plus you can sign up for email and Twitter updates and be directed to our Facebook page. So get going. Check it out. I'm waiting. Yep, still here.
