Cheap Bike Snow Tires- Your Existing Tires & Zip Ties

someone give this a try and let me know if it works. Don't want to pay for snow tires for your bike but want to be able to ride it in the winter? @Alison sent me this idea for do-it-yourself bike snowtires from Lifehacker. Everyone has zip ties lying around the garage, so just strap them on and give it hell. Seems like it would work, but what do I know?

  1. This scares the living crap out of me!

I was going to go out and spend some $$ for Nokians, but I like the idea of being scared/scared better.

  4. in action, and as noted, for those without disc brakes, this is a very silly solution. beyond that, they offer poor traction in the conditions that truly necessitate studs, and deliver nothing better than a nice wide knobbie (which you basically need to use them with in order for them not to cause serious danger when on wet pavement!), when you don't. if you have a bike with discs, one not purchased at a department store, you can afford proper tires for winter conditions.
