Wet ride and mushrooms

Patrick and I went up to Mt. Spokane on Friday morning for a short ride. I think I"ll write up a proper report and post it to Alex's Rough Stuff blog. The ride we took is a perfect intro for fat-tired-road-bikey-rough-stuff tooling around if you are in the Spokane area.

We parked at a trail-head and took the Kit Carson Loop up to the CCC Cabin. It's a moderate 6 mile climb on nice dirt road and a nice moderate descent on the way down. It would be a good shake down ride to test your bike setup. And there's a great lunch spot at the top. And door-to-door, it's less than 4 hours.

On Friday afternoon, Liza, Maddie, and I drove up to the Priest River Experimental Forest (PREF) for the Spokane Mushroom Club's Fall Foray. We stayed in a lodge up at the PREF Station, had an amazing potluck mushroom-based dinner on Friday night, then went mushroom hunting with the pros on Saturday morning.

My plan was to ride a loop up in the PREF. I even had a route loaded into my GPS. But I caught the mushroom bug instead and found about 5 pounds of chanterelle mushrooms.

Today- it's off to the races. I've been in a funk for a while and I'm hoping that racing the CX race out at 7 Mile will help lift my spirits. More on that later.

Which trailhead did you start from, Outhouse/trail 110 or lower Sno-Park parking lot/trail 100, other? We were just there last weekend for the Parks and Rec Fall bike ride. We shuttled up the summit road to the gate near the CCC cabin. Great riding. Thought there might be some nice bike camping in that area. Wade

Wade: 100 I think. The one with the big parking lot across the street from the trail head.

Actually yeah -- Willy, Patrick, and I camped about 200 yards from the CCC cabin last summer.
