John Speare said...: Christopher: I love this bike for dirt/trails. Until about 5 months ago, the bike in this post (Rawland) was my main mountain bike for a couple years -- twisty, knarly, rooty, rocky, semi-technical trails.
But note that the tires on this bike are honkin -- about 50mm.

But until I got the Rawland, my main trails/mountain bike was a cross bike with 34mm tires.

I love cross-style bikes (roadish bike with steepish front ends + moderate fat tires + canit's) for trail riding. They climb wonderfully, and they "pick through" stuff really well.

But for fast descending, it's hard to beat fat tires and/or shocks.; June 11, 2011 at 8:54:00 PM PDT
