Anon: thanks for the link. Very cool. I remember Mongoose when I was a kid. It was nearly top-shelf -- up there with Hutch and Redline...
But the ad you post makes it look as if the Mongoose was only a bike for tall riders?
That's not the case right? The mini-looking bmx mongoose was just the big one... right?

Man, I wanted one of those back in the day. Yeah, Mongoose for bigger "kids". If I remember correctly, out around 1979 or so. I was around 17 years old and read about it in a BMX magazine. My idea was to pick one up and convert to a 5 speed, using a freewheel and derailleur, to ride in the woods. Sort of a mountain bike before I even knew mountain bikes existed. I never pursued the idea.
I wound up working in a bike shop during the early '80s and assembled many Mongoose bikes, which were the high end deal back then. Think the Moose Goose was history by then.
In 1981 I purchased a Moosegoose frame and fork and with the help of a San Diego bike shop put a 5 speed mini cruiser together. The factory knew what I was doing as the owners of the shop were personal friends of the factory. Later when I moved to the Seattle area I found a bike shop that was selling the same setup straight from the factory. Intersesting?
